Try LeadTools from www.leadtools.com, this allows you to play back AVI files and is pretty robust. I've taken the following from their help file for AVI support:-

Load, Play, Step, Locate (by frame number or time index), Pause, and Save video files.

Control position, scaling, clipping, play-rate, and audio volume/balance of playback.

Copy frames to/from Windows clipboard.

Insert new frames and replace existing frames into AVI files.

Enumerate and select from available compressors - save as any available format.

Integrate with LEAD Image control for complete control over frame-by-frame image processing.
