Can anyone help?

I'm new to Oracle and developing an application in Oracle Forms6i. I have a canvas that displays details from a master block. I also have two detail blocks that display related data as I move through the master block. The problem is that when I update an existing record in the master block it is also updating the reference data in the detail blocks. Likewise, when inserting a new record into the master block the COMMIT_FORM command is also trying to insert into my detail blocks & producing an error.

I have tried to set the text items in the detail blocks to not allow updates or inserts and have also tried setting the database item option to NO, but this only results in no detail information being displayed at run-time.

I am at a complete loss!!!
