Mea culpa... That's not right. Under in view designer fields tab, select the memo field, then select the properties button. You can change the Data Mapping.Data Type option to char.
>Modify the view. Select the Query.Advanced Options menu item. There is an option to "Use Memo when field >=nnn". As long as the all memo len < nnn, it should show as a char field.
