Often this is caused by a lack of Windows "resources" in Win9x. If your app loads many forms and/or controls, or lots of images, this may become an issue. IIRC you can see your current resource status by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties". If the value is below 50 or 60% free before you start your VFP app, you may be in trouble.
You can reduce resource use by running fewer programs simultaneously, and/or unloading programs that load at computer startup (typically appear as icons in your system tray).
I understand there are some utility programs you can purchase that basically compress the resource heaps so they are used more efficiently, but I've never used one and I don't know how well they work.
Your best bet may be to stick with W2KPro, which does not have these resource issues (as you've found).
