mmmm.... I would have called that a variable reference.
To me, an 'indrect reference' is a variable that does not hold a numerical value (unless it is an address), literal string, or logical flag, but holds instead the name (or address) of another variable.

Ya stay in this game long enough and the you start to see definitions getting recycled with new meanings. Really gets confusing.
