This thing was called 'name expression' once it was introduced into FoxPro (around version 1.0 or 2.0), if I remember well after ten years.

Back in 1991 I once used the world 'folder' on a BBS message board, and was welcomed with a lot of noise from several people, who said I should learn the proper word was 'directory' and 'directory' only, and 'directory' forever, and that I could stuff my Atari up my...
Now it's called 'folder' (took only four years to get there), but I'm still sticking to 'directory'. Burned my fingers once, and learned the lesson. Besides, when I open a DOS window, I still have to type DIR, right? I tried typing FOLD, but it didn't like it.
