>>Shouldn't be much wear yet. Been in any conditions where the tire(s) may have been overly hot for an extended time?

>Nope, in fact in thinking about it, there probably was closer to 5K miles on it than 10. It may have been the longest period the tires have been on the road under Interstate conditions. We had driven to Kennesaw State University, where my wife had to do some stuff for a class she's taking. We we're there for about two hours (left between 4:30 and 5:00). We got stuck in the usual Atlanta rush hour traffic jam. We're at about mile marker 288, KSU is about 20 miles south of us, and the tire blew between mm 204 and 205. So it was just a bit more than 60 miles from where we left.

Probably just a defective tire then. Reason I asked is I had extensive discussions with a guy I worked with here regarding tires. Like me, in a previous life he was a engineer. He was actually one of the guys who helped develop and implement the main engines on the Saturn S1B booster. Later on he went to work for Michelin analyzing and developeing truck tires. He knew pot loads about tires. Essentially the number one enemy of tires is heat. They have other big enemies also, but that's the big one which causes the most rapid deterioration. But your description would indicate that there must have just been something wrong with that specific tire.

>>Yeah, I'd probably try to make some contact with GY on that one. "Uncomfortable" isn't strong enough. :-)

>I'm going to try to email them this weekend. If she has to get on the highway by herself, I'll probably be a nervous wreck.

I hear ya, and empathize. Let me know how it goes and what you find out.
