I IM'd one of my clients who is learning VFP and is switching over from using VB. His first response was, "Great are they killing it?".
I just told him that SP5 was available and by the way they are removing VFP from VS.NET. I always hear the Nay Sayers and uninformed telling me they heard MS was discontinuing VFP for the last several years. So the wording on this is very critical to how everyone will respond.
Yes, customers don't want to get stuck with a product that could possibly disappear some day.
My response to them is when Windows 98/ME/2000 go away then we might be stuck. VFP works on all of them right now so we should at least be good for another 18 months or so! <bg>
Seriously, though it is important how this is handled!
