How was the form created? An application foundation library, wizard, native VFP controls? Without some sort of clue as to the above it is difficult to guess what code you have.

If you are "writing directly to the database" then you are not using buffering and "Abort" (Cancel) is of no real value. How are you controling edits (and adds)? What happens if you go to another form? Behavior is another question.
