I've tried to keep my mouth shut about this, but I'm getting tired of the patronizing attitude and innuendo and the like. I don't know how others feel, but I would never sign something that says I might be willing to sign something in the future, especially in an online venue where my name might be abused. When there's a real letter, I'll read it and consider whether I'm willing to put my name to it. Until then, I'll wait. I doubt I'm the only one who feels this one.

I'm _so_ with you on this. I personally think it's a worthless endeavour to see how many people would "consider" signing or contributing to such a letter. Who cares? Certainly not Microsoft. As long as there are a handful of people interested in creating a letter, create the thing. Once there's a well-written letter ready to be sent off, those interested can read it and determine if they see fit to sign it.

Purely my thoughts.
