>What scares me is that they're saying this wasn't the big one they've been talking about.

Garrett;

An interesting bit of news I have not heard before concerns where the "really big" earthquakes occur. The Pacific North West was defined as most likely to receive a 9.0 lasting for over 45 minutes. Geologists were talking about on San Francisco Bay Area Television this after the quake in your area was reported. We have heard the term “The Big One” for many years and it is interesting to hear you use it.

Other areas mentioned that have and will receive massive earthquakes were Missouri, and Memphis, Tennessee. So all this crap about California falling into the ocean (shades of 1970) seems overrated. Looks like the evidence suggests California is not “earthquake country” as we have been lead to believe.

Almost eleven years after our October 17, 1989 earthquake, the freeway on the Oakland side that collapsed is still not completed. Progress!

Hope everyone recovers from the event experienced in your area. Earthquakes can certainly get your attention and make you realize how insignificant man is.

Tom
