I guess the answer to your question is "it depends".
West Wind Connection
Pro - the fastest, load-ready solution, little time-to-deploy
Con - cannot leverage the ASP community for presentation tier help, HTML presentation is "locked up" into the VFP code
ASP/VFP-ODBC
Pro - easy to setup, can leverage ASP community, can hire low-skill people to get it out
Con - does not scale well, hard to debug
ASP/VFP COM Object/Database
Pro - scales very well, pretty fast, can integrate with MTS/COM+ if you need security or database connection caching to a non-VFP data source, free if you already have a MSDN subscription :)
Con - hardest to get up-and-running if you have never done it before
