The argument for open source, is that a security hole is found faster than with a closed source solution, meaning although there much easier to find, there also much easier to fix.
So you have closed source followers saying that no one sees the source code therefore it is harder for people to find the security holes and open source followers saying everyone can see the source code therefore the security holes are easier to find and fix.
So either solution, its all just a matter of opinion I guess.
