Bill,
as you might have seen on my posting, I was having the problem when the user had a dial up modem and also using IP addressing for the network. Also, the faster the PC, the more of a delay. I believe that on the file open the station was looking at the wrong IP address first and waiting before trying the address where the file was. Only a guess but when I went to NetBUIE the problem was fixed. I also noticed before I changed anything that if I put my full system with programs and data on one of the Win 98 PCs with a shared drive that the system ran like a Fox. Almost as if the system was on a local hard drive. The problem is in some conflict with NT or Win 2K and IP addressing (I think). Hope this gives you some ideas as to where to look. If you find anything I would really apreciate it if you could let me know. I'm about to install my system where this could be a problem and I have to use IP addressing. By the way, I don't think the 3Com swithes have any effect.

John.

>Did you ever come to any conclusion on this. We are having similar problems and have been attributing it to the 3com network switches that the customer is using however we still cannot pinpoint it. I tried to change the server settings for Opportunistic Locking and that gave some appearance of helping once you have the client open and are processing data but the initial load is still painfully slow.
