I tried '' as empty default on a char field and now "''" shows up as the content of that field.

In books online I see space(0), rtrim(' ',0) etc as yielding the empty string.

Which one is the proper way to indicate an empty string to an update query, insert query or in the default definition of the design of a table?

Thanks
