It depends on what you need to do. The FFC comes with a wrapper for the ShellExecute() function in Shell32. James has mentioned OLE automation. The RUN command could be used. The Windows Script Host's Shell object has a Run method that will allow you to launch the document and, if necessary, wait until it's closed.
