>Hmmm. Yes, it is a niche. This niche includes desktop apps, client server, middle tier components with premium data handling capacity, and some arcane little academic exersize called OOP for the most part. Not too much of these items going on nowadays. Such a shame! But just suppose some idiotic users out there want tools to address any of these nichey little needs rang up MS and asked "Sorry to bother you but I was wondering what all kinds of tools have you innovators come up with that would apply well to my little niche? Could you please tell me about 'em, I'm all ears."

>What do you think MS would say?

"Hmmm.... that's a tough one. Did you check our web site?"

"yes"

"OK, let's see... you say that you need an app that runs on a standalone computer?"

"Yes"

"What I could suggest is that you buy another computer and a T1, set that up as a server running sql-server, and then create your app as an ASP application. Now, take the computer you had as a standalone, hook it up to the internet through a dsl line and access your application through Internet Explorer"

"You mean I have to spend over $5000 to do this?"

"Well, you will save a lot of money because Internet Explorer is free. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"

"hmmm...."

"Thank you for calling Microsoft. Have a nice day. "

Sorry guys, couldn't resist.

;-) Alex
