>I know that the default passwords on SYS and SYSTEM should be changed after a database is created, but should any of the default users like ADAMS, BLAKE, SCOTT, etc. be locked, or does Oracle processing use them? I was thinking that it would be easier to lock them instead of changing and keeping track of all the passwords. From a security standpoint, if they aren't used they should be disabled, right?
If you are not going to use them, you can drop the users or just change the password. You can also lock the account.
>Also, would you recommend doing admin via command lines and SQL*Plus, instead of the DBA Studio/Enterprise Manager, since most clients will probably be running in the Unix enviroment as opposed to Windows? Of course, since I haven't seen Oracle in Unix, I could be making an unfair assumption that a GUI interface isn't used...
Use whatever you are comfortable with. They both can be used to accomplish the same tasks. The platform is irrelevent. This biggest difference is that Oracle is a bear to install on a Unix machine.
