I run an application of the same scale as yours. All users run a local copy of the exe file and also have their own work files. The only files on the server are the true shared data files.

There is a directory on the server which holds a blank copy of the work files and the server application is also compiled into the same directory as an exe.

Each user has a "Database Refresh" icon on their screen. Pressing this put a fresh load of work files on their pc (very usefull as most of the crashes hit the local files. It also download a fresh copy of the exe file. This is an absolute must as program fixes (resulting from 'brainwaves' or poor code) are made on a regular basis.

Operators find this system very easy to work with. Its also easy for me to make program fixes via pcAnywhere and get them implemented straight away.
