PMFJI, but yes there has always been a version independent entry. An article was written a couple of years ago (by Doug Hennig I think) on one method of avoiding DLL hell by using AddObject at run-time insetad of embedding an OLE control in your forms. The OLE control must use the same version of the control because it uses the version dependent entry while AddObject/NewObject can use the independent version and use whatever the end user has installed.
Note: It works for some controls but some have a copy protection/license associated with them that precludes this technique.
