Yes, I saw it in the past. But what is intriguing, that now while not using automation and playing with omly API I get negative windowhandles in similar situation. It looks strange to me. I thought it could be only positive valid numbers. And yes, I am able to close Excel via sendmessage using negative handle.

BTW as a sidenote if you're using Excel tasks via automation be sure to keep oExcel in scope till Excel shuts down and do not attempt to use oExcel after it's shutdown. Otherwise you can expect crashes (like the one you said 'Memory couldn't...') ie: result is different when user presses Ctrl+F4 or Alt+F4 in Excel.
