The best way to overcome the nervousness it to start talking to everyone you meet -- in the hotel lobby, in the registration line, at the snack breaks, etc. Generally, most people around you will be happy that you started talking, since they may be feeling awkward, also.

I've found that every time I've started a conversation at a conference the other person immediately began talking, as if I had just flipped the "ON" switch. I look forward to meeting you there.
