Andrew,

Yes, the Sabbath would be the seventh day of the week but I thought we were discussing the first day of the week.. ?? <g> Sunday would be the first day of the week as the Jewish Sabbath (Shabat) is from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. Most folks think it's Saturday but that's only partly true as they see their days starting & stopping at sundown, not sunrise. <g>

I think a lot of folks get confused because they think Sunday is the Christian Sabbath. In actuality there really is no such specific day as Christianity sees the Sabbath as the finished work of Christ, not a day.

Seventh Day Adventists come in all stripes and flavors actually. Some of them are quite legalistic (strict) and think that they must worship on Saturday, the Jewish Shabat. That is actually a misreading of the scripture IMO.

As far as VFP catering to all beliefs, nothing could be more true! <g>

>>Tom,
>>
>>>>> But most people sees Monday as the first day in the week, because it is right after a weekend of rest (hopefully. If not to much drinking etc). But I think in USA (where I am now) there is some political (or something) statement that Sunday is the first day of the week.
>>>
>>>
>>>My United States, German and Spanish calendars begin with Sunday, Sonntag and Domingo. They are each printed in their respective countries. It may be a convention but started by whom and why?
>>
>>You mean the printed type where there are seven days across the top with Sunday as the first?
>>
>>I'd think thatin those countries where there has been a greater than average influence of Christianity or at least a calendering system based on Christianity that this would be the cause. Sunday is seen as the first day of the week.
>>
>>I know that in Israel today they use a calendering system where they use the phrase 'BCE' (Before the Common Era) rather BC (Before Christ). Also, the Islamic countries use a separate dating system that reflects their positions more accurately. In both cases I'm not sure what they consider the first day of the week.
>>
>>Also, in Europe it is not uncommon to have Monday designated as the first day of the week.
>>
>>Apparently there's more to this than many might think! <g>
>>
>>>
>>>Some U.S. companies have a system of their own as to when a week begins (business rules) and I have seen Saturday, Sunday and Monday as start days used on calendars belonging to different companies. One company I worked for during a fifteen year period used all three of the above start days.

>>>Add European transpiration and railroads. Carmel, California has a law – no house numbers will be displayed. Must be fun for the mail man!

Best,
