>I have downloaded the 2.4.2 kernel
2.4.2 doesn't use IP Chains. It uses NetFilter. TrinityOS uses IP Chains (but it working on Net Filter). I recommend you use 2.2.18 for your firewall box to start with.
> Apache 1.3.19
Use the Apachetoolkit (
www.apachetoolkit.com) to install Apache and modules.
> MySQL 2.23.35-1
Just follow the instructions on
www.mysql.com. That way, you will have a fine tuned install (which is important in a SQL server).
> Sendmail 8.13.3
Since you aren't going to be running an enterprise level mail server, I suggest you just use the Sendmail RPMs from Red Hat. Sendmail is NOT easy to compile and configure correctly for newbies. And if you don't configure correctly, you will end up with an open relay (or get hacked) and spammers will own you and ORBS will ignore you.
> Do you have any recomendations on the firewall or should I use the one in RedHat?
Red Hat doesn't come with a pre-configured firewall. The "firewall" package Red Hat comes with is the IP Chains tools. You still have to create the script (that's what Trinity OS will teach you).
