>And how many programmers are currently solving new business problems using Clipper -Summer of 87, or exporting old solutions to it?
I rest my case, counselor! ;-)

Actually, we are. For hand-helds with very limited storage, Clipper 5.0 and 5.3 have a much smaller executable than VFP. The fact that one can compile in C code means we can use it to manage the back end and C++ for the interface.

However, it was not the strength of the language that caused its demise, it was the fact it was bought out by that idiot Wang at Computer Associates and could never really make the transition to Windows.

IAGIANAL????

>>>OR, more experience than you realize. It's one thing to support a languge and another to make it a religious faith. VB has been undergoing a ground shift and there is lots of discontent in the VB community.

>>"Discontent" is being very gracious. Most of my VB colleagues are on the verge of mutiny. MS has taken away a lot of backward compatibility and they are really pisssssssed.

>>However, I remember when Clipper did the same thing. It took some adjustment, but the result was worth it in speed and the ability to compile down to machine code.

>>How'd a nice guy like you get hooked up with NDOR? When I practiced law up there I had some nice skirmishes with your legal guys (and gals), some of which I actually won.
