I just started with SQL in the Foxpro environment as well. I found chapters 20-22 of the Foxpro help file very good.
The link http://www.levelextreme.com/wconnect/wc.dll?UniversalThread~?2,15,329359 explains how to programmatically connect to an SQL server.

Difference in datatypes makes for some fun programming sometimes...
