I can't explain the behaviour you describe as I have never tried it,
but...
Why don't you try a different approach?
Maybe send the message to a file? and print the file at the end of each day etc?
or try

Set printer on
?
Set printer off

With the system you describe, doesn't it use a lot of paper?
