They are different because they we're designed by two different development teams. There is no 'standard' status bar by MS. The developers for VB and VFP come from (IMHO) two completely different backgrounds of programming concepts and ideologies.

You could always create your own status bar to behave like the VB one. I have no clue where to start that though. *G*
