>>>Enemy at the Gates is my favourite movie of 2001 so far. I predict an Oscar next spring. Jude Law, Jospeh Feines and Ed Harris have magnificent preformances. As well it is refreshing to the war from a European perspective. I would put this movie almost in the league of Dr Zhivago (excuse my spelling) and I think it is a bit better that Saving Private Ryan.

>It is about the seige of Stalingrad during WWII from the Russian perspective. Excellent setting. The Russians are being beaten back slowing to the Volga on a street by street basis and are low on moral. A young Russian peasant becomes a hero for his excellent sniper skills and this helps the Russians to get the strength to hold onto the city. The Germans send in their own expert marksman to skill the Russian sniper. The movie is about their cat and mouse game of trying to kill each other. Excellent war flick, history, suspense and romance. Superb character development. Excellent recreation of Stalingrad. Just as Crouching Tiger transcends the martials film, this transcends the war film. Everyone should like this.

>Igor, you are Eastern European?

Yes, I am.
The movie plot is really interesting. I'll go to see it. By the way, I saw The Crouching Tiger and the hidden dragon. An excellent movie.
