I have't invested in any 3rd party product yet, but am being killed by the frequency of having to recover something related to data several times a day (pc lockup, VFP freezing etc).

There are several old public-domain samples of file header and memo file repair utilities. In my app, all DBF's are checked for corruption when the app is started. If a damaged file is found, an improper shutdown screen appears and the app offers to fix the damaged files (using the samples from public-domain).
This seems to fix damaged files 99.9% of the time.
Hope this helps,
Mark
