Well, Glenn I think I may have an old man's story to top yours :).
In the late 60's early 70's I headed a group that wrote a surveying and earth moving application that provided for quantification and analysis of the work invloved in building roads and airfields complete with plotter output of cross sections and mass/haul diagrams etc. All this was done on a HP 9810 programmable calculator with a massive 128 kb magnetic strip storage capacity. We would spend hours analysing the program to try and release 8 or 10 bytes to accommodate a new feature!!
Of course I also remember sitting looking at punched tape and trying to fix errors with a hand punch and sticky tape..... but that's another story.
Who else out there has any good stories of when programming had the additional challenge of limited (and I mean really limited!) capacities of the tools they were working with.
