I know linux is being picked up. But a lot of other stuff still is not. Particuarly with database software. Many insist on Oracle, which to me is very hard to justify with the price and performance. But that is my main point, many customers just don't have the technical or monetary resources to support client server, not even some of the ones who want/insist on it. And the worst thing you can do is have your customer get blindsided by the cost of maintaining a database server.
