I have a Pentium 100Mhz machine with a 1.2GB super IDE HDD, 16MB of RAM and 1.44MB FDD.

On the Performance page in the System Properties in Control Panel, the File System (in the Performance Status) reads 'Some drives are using MS-DOS compatibility' and the Virtual Memory states 'MS-DOS compatibility mode'.

In the Item Details list on the same page, the first line indicates 'Compatibility mode paging reduces overall system performance.' The next two lines mentions both the drives that I have on the machine, viz. Drive A: and C:. The lines states that the drives are using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system.

As stated in the Windows Help, I checked my startup files, Config.sys and Autoexec.bat, but there are no drivers which Windows might no recognize. The only drive I using is Himem.sys.

Due to this problem, the system performance is reduced drastically. I have similar machines with similar hadware configurations as well as same set of Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files which gives a far better performance. Moreover they do not register this problem.

Can anyone help me out with this?

TIA,

Hardik
