I was lucky, I needed an elective to complete my BA and they had ground school. After passing the written there was no reason not to keep going. Now I need a to get current again.

Piece of advice - save up and do it at one time. I probably added an extra ten hours because there was so much time between lessons sometimes that we had to re-learn things again. You might even look at a flight school.
