Have you tried accessing the .TEXT property of the control instead of the .VALUE property? This property was added, I believe in v.6.

.TEXT is supposed to represent the keystrokes the user has actually entered -- though on exit from the field, the property's value is adjusted to some degree by field formatting, data type, etc.
