I subclass all my base forms, and controls. That way, everthing by default
has the same font, and colors,

Personally I just got tired of all those grey screens. and dropdown top level menus.

Depending on what your personal color palette is, or what your companys color palette might be, should be a starting point to your own color palette.

I have found this link useful http://www.colorschemer.com/online/
in selecting colors (not being a graphic artist myself,) I program database applications. we all need help now and again.

One last thought, and that is if you have to program the database, sql queries, transactions, errormessages, field level validation, and the UI.(like most of us do). just spend some time, not thinking too much about how your app works, just how it should work, try to think from the point of view of the user, not how much coding it will take to get it done. just how it looks. These days often times programmers, are breaking up the process of programming into seperate people, where one person, would do the backend, and one would do nothing but the UI, and maybe an outside designer do work out graphic details of the UI on top of it all.

What I started to do a while back was to concentrate for a good deal of time just on the UI, Then when I know exactally what it should do, the and only then do I start the task of making the thing work the way it should. This may be backwards, but I find it works for me.

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
