Don't know if I can answer this but here are a couple of things to look at:
1. Are you using 16 or 32 bit ODBC drivers?
2. Can you ping the SQL server from the PC that you are installing the app upon?
3. You may want to download the latest ODBC drivers from M$ and use these drivers on all machines that will run the app.
