>Even granting that the US has the legal right to convict someone for actions which did not occur in this country - I don't think there exists any right to forcibly "bring him to justice." That's what extradition treaties are for. Let's try to reverse the situation somewhat. The production and distribution of pornographic material is illegal in most (all???) of the Islamic world. By the laws of Iran, Penthouse magazine is deemed pornographic. What would your reaction be to the government of Iran sending in a group of "agents" who kidnap the head of the Penthouse distribution network, bring him back to Tehran, and try him for the sale of pornography. I imagine the general reaction would be "They can't do that." implying they have no legal right to do that. Without getting into the relative merits of porn vs drugs.....Are the situations THAT dissimilar?

Yes I would say they are very dissimilar. Your right in that we usually do have extradition treaties to handle these sorts of things but in the case of Norega (I think that's who we were talking about), he was the head of the country we obviously could not negotiate with him for his own extradition. Governments, which include the head of state, that are invovled in illegal activities in our country are handeled with our military as in this case. Much different then dealling with ordinary citizens as in your case.
