Doug,

>>I would be more interested to know how many developers are leaving the FoxPro community and how many are staying. I'm not sure that you will find too many new developers entering the VFP community, especially since the product is not being made visible enough to new developers. However, there is a huge base of current VFP developers. I think the key is whether the current VFP developers are going to continue using VFP in the long term.

>>I think it's too bad that Microsoft won't give VFP a boost somehow. If they did a little more publicity with the product, I'm sure this would alleviate a lot of fears. It would also attract more developers to the product.

>Well, here is almost one VFP developer leaving the fold. I have accepted a project of Oracle development, and even after demonstrating how much faster the front end would come online with VFP, the final decision is to use developer2000 (oracle) This is my next skillset, I guess.

>I have been doing in FP and VFP since the beginning, and I have the religion-like love for it as much as the others on here, however, I cannot market the product alone, if at all. The company I left has two unfilled positions for VFP developers, and are unable to find them. There are plenty of developers willing to work offsite, but what about the employer who requires on-site development?

Well, they will balk at paying a better rate to get those VFP programmers and then go spend twice as much for their Oracle programmers... <g>

I think the problem is the weenie managers who don't have a clue and the only thing that will help those spineless saps is for MSFT to step up to the plate and position VFP better. They're doing better than they have but they can always do better... How many managers/decision makers do you know who have the courage to do what's technically correct as opposed to politically or culturally correct?
Best,

DD
