>Well, here is almost one VFP developer leaving the fold. I have accepted a project of Oracle development, and even after demonstrating how much faster the front end would come online with VFP, the final decision is to use developer2000 (oracle) This is my next skillset, I guess.
Doug;
Having Oracle on your resume will not hurt a thing. In fact the more experience you have the more real value you have as an employee.
I feel like a mercenary (or is that prostitute) as I am willing to learn new things – for a price. You pay me and I will learn. My employer told me to learn VB so I did and made a large amount of money for the company. I picked up new skills and I see nothing wrong in that. Now I am doing web development with SQL Server. I add that to my Sybase, Oracle, VFP, Powerbuilder, Revelation, C, and Dataflex skills and am not afraid to learn new things.
So many times I have proven the VFP was the best tool for a specific job and the boss said no. That is O.K. with me - I feel I must voice my opinion but I do what the job requires (management allows me to know what that is).
