I realize it is tough to do. Surely the data engine is intertwined with the rest of the language.

MS's motivation to do it would be many new sales of SQL server, so we can forget about a cheap server version of VFP. That is OK, as I am very ready to pay for what I want.

I am not asking for SQL server to change, just that VFP be a highly integrated front end. You said it better than me: I want record related commands. E. F. Codd would be mad at me.
