COBOL stored data in several ways, depending on which flavor (RM, Realia, etc) of the language and which file format (ISAM, Btrieve, other) was used. Liant software (RM-COBOL) has a product called Relativity which allows you to access legacy COBOL ISAM data files through ODBC. You have to have RM-COBOL compiler and the COBOL source (at least the FD's) to make it work. For Btrieve files, there are several companies producing solutions for ODBC access. Check out Smithware.
