Sorry, not an answer but. . .

I get the same message when I d-click a Word document in my Win2000. But here's the neat thing (yea, right) - it does this on one user-ID (non-Admimistrator) but not on the Administrator ID.
It doesn't bother me in my case because I don't want to use Word2000 on my docs anyway (it of course is default) but rather Word97.

Have no idea why, but there might be a clue there for you.
