There was a thread here a few weeks ago (#480266) that maxed out at 50 messages about slow file open times using a new Dell. I now have that problem and I wonder if anyone ever figured out what it was. Here is what I have so far:

New Dell 4100 1 GH, 128 mb RAM, NIC on board, Win 98 SE.
Tried new NIC with on board disabled and got the exact same problem.
Swapped network cable with PC next to it. No change.

VFP program is running from a Windows 2000, Dell 1400 server. EXE and data on the server. DLLs on the workstations.

If no other station is in the system the Dell runs great. If any other PC is running the program (at least one file open from 1st screen) the Dell is slow. Tried different PCs in the shop and if any one is in the system the Dell is slow so I know it's not one bad PC, NIC etc.

The more files that need to be open the longer a form takes to load.

Last time I had this problem I changed from TCP/IP to NetBEUI and it fixed the problem. Later I changed back to TCP/IP and the problem still didn't appear. This time I changed to NetBEUI and no difference.

HELP!! It's a 1.5 hr each way to this client and after a week I'm running out of answers.
