Having a configuration problem when creating reports that are used in mixed os environments - namely win98 & win2000

Here's the background:
When I want to create a report with custom paper size in win98, I create the report using the report designer, save it, empty the tag & tag2 fields, remove specific printer info from the expr field, and all is well. The paper size setting is left at 256 in the expr field (user-defined).

When I want to do this for win2000, a paper size setting of 256 results in a standard letter size paper for my report. PrtInfo(2) returns any of several values from win2000, but never 256. The custom paper sizes in win2000 are created as custom paper 'forms', which seem to have some unusual paper size number assigned to them. ie 126, 127 and on...

I'd like to be able to use the same reports for my apps regardless what version of windows my clients are running, but this getting in my way.

Has someone here encountered this? What sort of workaround can I use to deal with this?
I could create a separate report file for every os version, but this would not deal with the fact that any number of custom paper sized forms could exist under win2000...

Thanks all.
