Mark;

You hit the nail on the head! When I think about this topic I see stars or is that Star Wars?

If I had someone administrating my use of a VFP database I would feel the same way.

When I use a VFP database for an application I have to see to it that the database is created according to the needs of the customer. If I use another backend I usually have to deal with a database administrator. This requires filling out forms, justification, miss communication, the shinning and rosy attitude of the dba, and anxiety about when and if the required work will be accomplished in a timely and correct manner. I could write a book about these A-- H----s. I tend to think these guys came from the same cookie cutter.

Last year just before the .COM crash began there was an interview with college students in different parts of the Nation. It amazed me that areas other that Silicon Valley had the .COM craze (fired by Greed). In Maryland, they talked to a young man about to graduate with a degree in Marketing. He had been hired as the database administrator for a .COM company. He was asked if he had any experience and said: "No, but they said they would teach me"! Personally, I think he was overqualified and I hated to see a nice kid about to ender "dba hell" and the world of .COM!

I remember the SQL Server 7.0 Kickoff, December 1998, when Steve Ballmer stated: "There is no need for a database administrator with SQL Server 7.0" Really?

Tom
