I just spent five hours last night fixing a problem with .sct files in SBT accounting. They had all turned into VBscript files. Totally corrupted. Come to find out one of the users had gotten the ILOVEYOU virus and it re-wrote the files on the network. Once I cleaned that off the system I had no other problems. I run windows 2000 on one of the work stations in SBT without problems.

That may not be your issue, but it sound similar.
