Years ago, the company had a single HP printer on the server. Never had a problem. Then, about two years ago, we started using jetdirect, placing different HP printers at strategic places throughout the building. We started getting random software lockups at various stages of printing, requiring shutdown of the client PC to regain access to the printer driver. The inconsistency have almost driven me nuts. (Maybe, it already has.) We can go two or three days without one problem, or have four in one hour. I've replaced NICs, pulled new wires, and downloaded the latest drivers. I've always suspected a jetdirect software problem, but of course, I can't prove it. Whatever it is, the problems seem to disappear, or at least be much less significant, with Visual FoxPro applications running on Win2000 clients.
