I like your "grey" Form; nice and "big". Which brings me to ask what "general design rules" are people (here) applying to Form Design these days. In particular, I would be interested in knowing what the lowest "screen resolution" and Font Size people are targetting.

For example, I still do my initial design at 640x480, though I find it extremely restrictive. I'm wondering if I'm asking for trouble if I only work with a minimum of 800x600 and then ask Users to like it (or lump it).

As for Font Size, I've always used mostly 8 Point, and I believe MS has used that in general. However, all references to "useability" that I have consulted seem to indicate that 12 Point should be the rule (and NEVER below 10 Point); these studies make particular reference to the "over 40" crowd when it comes to being able to read our Forms.

Of course, larger Fonts means less information on a Form, implying "more pages" (in a PageFrame) ... which seems at odds with some sources that say we should strive for as much "information" as possible on a Form (so Users don't have to "page").

Opinions ? Comments ? Anyone ?
