Maybe I am not following both of you, but I have been able to add a table (that is part of a DBC) to a DE without opening the database first. I think I just clicked on the "Other" buttong and selected the table. Could you not then go to the cursor's properties to see the DBC name?

Or, with the way things have (not) been going lately, maybe I just dreamed all of this :)
